CHAPTER FIVE
FLIGHT TRAINING PUBLICATION (FLIP) STUDENT GUIDE
Legend
On the reverse side of the front/rear panels you will find a chart legend. This legend is provided
as a reference for interpreting all the symbols and information depicted on the charts. The
legend is divided into four major parts:
1.
Airports
2.
NAVAIDs and Communication Boxes
3.
Air Traffic Services and Airspace Information
4.
Special Use Airspace.
You will need to be familiar with many of the symbols in the legend (Figures 5-3 to 5-6). In the
dynamic flight environment, there will be instances when the NAV/NFO must interpret the chart
without reference to the legend. The FLIP 5 lecture will introduce you to the commonly used
symbols.
