T-45A/C TS, E2-C2, ADV & IUT Aero-03
Slow-Speed Flight, Stall and Spin, and AOA System
Figure 14: T-45 NAVIGATION APPROACH HUD DISPLAY
7.
HUD indications
a.
Uses AOA information from AOA probe to
present AOA information in with digital and
graphical symbols
b.
AOA bracket "E" shows AOA in relationship to
waterline (T-45A) or velocity vector (T-45C)
F. Actual flight path of T-45 at particular AOA depends on
thrust selected by pilot
1.
Example: A particular thrust setting will maintain
level flight at 17 units AOA, a higher thrust setting
will result in a climb, and a lower thrust setting will
cause the aircraft to descend; a pilot would thus use
AOA to control airspeed and thrust to control altitude
