Introduction to Tactical Formation--Section Turns
T-45C TS, ADV & IUT TFFP-02
(1) Continue the set turn procedure
(2) After 90 degrees of turn, check and call
lead's "Six clear"
There is a possibility of losing sight after 135 degrees of turn.
Finish explaining the procedures and then stimulate a
discussion by asking the next embedded question to see if the
student can think through the maneuver.
Lead: after obtaining a visual on the wingman,
check his six and call, "Visual, six clear"
Wingman: maneuver into combat spread
When, if at all, will the wingman lose sight of the lead
during an in-place turn away from the wingman?
ANSWER: After 135 degrees of turn
Common error for in-place turn away from wingman
Problem: wingman fails to make corrections off
lead in first 90 degrees of turn, resulting in
wingman being acute or sucked out of turn
Correction: adjust AOB and g appropriately to
compensate for problem
