CAUTION: Beware of target fixation through the

HUD due to its limited field of view and

concentrated focus.

III. HUD failure 5.7.1.5.5.3

A. Identification of failure--portions of HUD display will

disappear

NOTE: Rapid roll rates and/or rapid g-load transitions may

cause some HUD information to drop off display.

B. Response to failure 5.7.1.5.5.4

1. Check to ensure that the declutter mode has not been

selected

2. If failure occurs on ground or in transit to/from MOA, try

to clear failure by turning HUD off and on again

3. If reticle disappears during a gunsight tracking and

won't reappear when HUD is cycled

a. Select Air-to-Air RTGS on Air-to-Air Stores page

b. Because rear cockpit is equipped with conventional

sight and will not be affected by HUD failure,

continue tracking using back seat demonstrations or

guidance during tracking

NOTE: Coordinate with instructor to select other

HUD submodes that may produce a usable reticle.

Continue flight using reticle--backed up by the aft

gunsight reticle
