3. Night Familiarization Stage. Develop the SNA's night flying
ability with emphasis on the instrument aspects of night flying
and night landing techniques.
Includes: Night Familiarization Flight Procedures (NFAMFP-01
through NFAMFP-03X), and Night Familiarization simulator and
flights (NFAM-01S through NFAM-04).
A day or night front seat landing within the previous
day is a prerequisite for night solo flight.
All night flights shall takeoff no earlier than
30 minutes after official sunset.
Night solo flights require an operating radar
Jacket review required prior to check flight.
NFAM route must be utilized.

4. Instrument Rating Stage. Enable the student to navigate a
jet aircraft from takeoff to landing via airways and in terminal
Traffic Control regulations. Successful completion of this stage
will warrant issuance of a Naval standard instrument rating.
Includes: Instrument Rating Flight Procedures (IRFP-01 through
IRFP-04X), and Instrument Rating simulators and flights (IR-01S
Two out-and-in flights (outside the local area) are
required in the AN/IR syllabus prior to IR-07X. A
cross-country with at least four legs may be
substituted for this requirement.
Jacket review and successful completion of instrument
examinations are required within 60 days prior to
IR-07X. IRFP-03X is a paper/pencil open-book test and
IRFP-04X is a CAI examination.
